Sex and the "City Bar"

So, this wonderful woman Paige Oakley-Anderson, decided to have a Sex and the "City Bar" party to raise money for a local breast cancer organization. There were 4 limos and about 50 ladies. They all met at the City Bar in Myrtle Beach, had a few Sex and the City cocktails, then headed off the the premier of Sex and the City. As they exited the limo's there was a full band playing. The manager of the movie theater, met them all and escorted the ladies to their own private theater for the movie. After the movie, there are these 4 stretched limos parked out front. As the ladies are coming out and mingling before getting back into the limos, there was a real buzz in the air. As the photographer I was asked, "Are they famous?" "Are they actresses?" "Are they from New York?" It was a fun time I am sure!

One of the limo drivers even mentioned that an evening like this, is what everyone thinks a limo ride should be like. So, hats off to Paige for organizing this event. Hats off to all of the lovely ladies who came out to support this event.

Back at the City Bar were tickets being bought for all of the wonderful items being raffled off that night. There were Sex and the City posters, gift certificates from my photography business, August T. Michel Photography, as well as Party Maker, Bi-Lo Shopping Center, JPH Retreats, Party Gals by Lisa, Palm Shoe Collections and Carolina Limousine.

Paige and I are finalizing the album on my website and it should be available by June 1st. Until then you can stop by our Facebooks and see a small sampling below.

Trashing the Wedding Dress

OK, some ladies reading this will at first, "OH MY!! it's your wedding dress!!" I agree! However, some ladies say, "I am honestly never going to wear this dress again. Why NOT.. Trash the Dress?" Again, I agree! ;)

This is where each bride needs to realize that trashing the dress can be from one extreme to the other. A gentle walk through the surf all the way to lighting it on fire.

As your photographer I am going to really leave this 110% up to the bride. How adventurous do you want to be. As your photographer I am not looking to destroy your dress. I am looking to capture some unique images that you will NEVER forget. They will also be some of the more unique photos from anytime in your life.

Here is some cool info from Wikipedia on Trashing the Dress as well as some photos from Kathy's Trash the Dress shoot.

Trash the dress, also known as fearless bridal or rock the frock, is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. It is generally shot in the style of fashion and glamour photography.

Usually brides decide to have pictures taken on a beach, but other locations include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings.

Some sources claim... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trash_the_dress

Erica's Wedding

She is from Brazil, he is in the Air Force... Her parents do not speak any English, his grandmother is from the Atlantic Beach, NC area... and that is how it all comes to be. Erica and I met, I think on Myspace as I was putting out comments regarding my photography business. She fell in love with my work and I am glad she did.

She was a little worried about the 30% chance of thunderstorms but the day turned out wonderfully! I have just a few photos ready for this blog, but I am sure there are going to be a few hundred really great shots, so make sure you stop back to check them out!!!

Brittney and Adam's Wedding

I have to say that this was a beautiful wedding. The reception location was this really grand county club setting. The wedding was held out on a huge deck overlooking a lake. It offered some wonderful photo opportunities and here are a few examples. Please fee free to stop by my site for a full line-up of hundreds of photographs from their wedding!

Food Network Stars and the Taste! Show

I am almost finished with around 1500 overall photos from the Taste! Show this weekend in Myrtle Beach. As the official photographer for the event, I had a great time meeting folks from all over the US. Some with great chili recipes, some with iced tea flavors you would be so surprised to taste and find there is not one bit of sugar sweetening them.

There are some really fun photos from the contest Guy Fieri had. It was putting an Oreo on your forehead, then getting the Oreo to your mouth without using your hands. The winner was so lucky to get one of his new Knuckle Knives.

There are also some really cool candid shots of different people who are getting autographs, etc. If anyone knows these folks, have them contact me and I will email them the photos (logo free). Just a nice gift for them.

If you are looking for any of your product photography for any of the products you had in the show, I am going to be offering a special package for the vendors. Please just contact me on my site, http://www.AugustTPhotography.com and I will email you the information.

If you are looking for a photographer for your event in Myrtle Beach or elsewhere around the globe, I am open for bookings. All of my contact information for August T Photography is on my website. Even though we focus on weddings and family beach photography in the Grand Strand, I absolutely love photography and love people and love capturing moments that will last lifetimes. Like my motto says, "We specialize in the Extraordinary!". Let me know how I can provide the Extraordinary! for you.

Thanks,
August

Taste! Food Show

Wow! What an experience! Thursday night I had a chance to meet some of the stars from the Food Network. Guy Fieri ~ Food Networks Host of "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" and also "Guy's Big Bite", Aaron McCargo Jr ~ Season 4 Winner: Food Network's Show "Next Food Network Star" and Host of his own Food Network Show "Big Daddy's House", Rich Hollenberg ~ TV Personality / Cooking Host, Eric Masson ~ Executive Chef and proprietor of The Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro, Eric's wife, Kimberlee Mason, Andreann Geise ~ September 2009 Ultimate Recipe Showdown winner!, Becky Billingsly of the Myrtle Beach Restaurant News, Kara-Anne Serradimigni and Liz Mitchell of Taste!.

Friday was a long day of photographing everything from the breakfast with Guy Fieri all the way to the fine wine reception at the end of the night with Fabio Viviani ~ Bravo TV's Show Top Chef 5 "Fan Favorite" and Jacopo Falleni ~ Mixologist & Restaurant Owner, Firenze Osteria.

I had the chance to photograph the first cooking demo by Andreann Geise ~ September 2009 Ultimate Recipe Showdown winner! Then the room was busting at the seams for Guy Fieri ~ Food Networks Host of "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" and also "Guy's Big Bite". I have to say I have met some personalities over the years and Guy really has a flamboyance about him. At the dinner Thursday night he asked how many of us have ever seen a champagne bottle "sabred"? Some of us have heard of it... Next thing you know we are all outside, Guy has a huge knife and with one felt swoop, the cork and the top of the champagne bottle are now off in the grass somewhere.

I had a chance to then go booth to booth taking some candid shots of the vendors and guests enjoying some of the greatest tasting foods, sauces, cakes, coffee's and the list goes on.

Unfortunately I did have a wedding to photograph on Saturday so I did not have a chance to capture the events. However I did get back for the Awards on Sunday. Please stay tuned for the other blogs I will post about this event.

Thanks,
August

Engagement Photo Session Ideas

I love meeting a couple for the first time, spend a couple of hours taking some great and creative shots to celebrate their love for each other. Its also great to hear their story and get to know them a little better. Its also a great way for them to get to know me as their potential wedding photographer. So, its a great win-win.

As I read up on ways to enhance my photography, and my business I come across a lot of average and even poor articles. However, this article I found was GREAT and I would like to share it with you. The link for the entire article is right at the end.

Thanks,

Why Take Engagement Photos?

If you are engaged or getting ready to be engaged, you should prepare yourself for all of the things that you now are 'supposed' to do now that you are on a direct path for marriage. One of these things that will most likely come up quickly is getting your engagement photos taken. Engagement photos might not seem like that big of deal, but after going through this entire engagement picture-taking process I now realize that some of the decisions that were made before we even took a single shot were some of the most important ones that were made.

Whether you realize this yet or not, your engagement photos are going to be more important than you probably realize and thinking through the process will help you end up with pictures that best reflect both the couple and their love for one another. Also, the pictures that you get taken during your engagement photo shoot most likely aren't going to be cheap and they are going to be used in other things such as your save the date mailing, wedding program, guest book and reception decoration so you need to make sure that you have your stuff together before you're standing there in front of the camera,

The rest of this guide will help you make some of these important decisions once you get ready to have your engagement photos taken so that you'll end up with the type of creative and unique pictures that will reflect the awesome relationship that you have with your future husband or wife.

Be sure to find a photographer that really fits your style as a couple.

Be sure to find a photographer that really fits your style as a couple.
Finding A Photographer That Fits Your Style

One of the most important things that I have learned now that I have had my unique engagement photos taken is that you need to find a photographer that fits your style. I really can't stress this enough. There are a lot of photographers out there that tend to forget that this is your wedding and not just another addition to their portfolio, so as you begin to look for photographers for your engagement photos please try to find one that you know will match your personality as a couple and who will really listen to your thoughts and ideas.

When you first meet with photographers, here are a few questions that you might want to bring up with them when they are showing you their portfolio (which I hope they have!):

* Why did you choose these different locations for the photos that you're showing me and what did they have to do with the couple? (this will show their interest for the couples as opposed to the art)
* How many different locations do you allow us to shoot at and how open are you for some brainstorming before we go out and start shooting? (this will show their willingness to be flexible so that you can learn each other's style)
* How do you normally find your clients? Are they referred? (this will tell you how satisfied their clients have been -- more referrals = more satisfaction)
* How many of your engagement photo clients end up asking you to shoot their wedding as well? (more engagements that turn into wedding shoots means more happy clients)
* Can I speak to one of your recent satisfied clients? (it's always good to check a reference or two)

Also, I've found that it's also good to meet the photographer in a restaurant for dinner or coffee shop for a drink so that you can really get a good feel for who they are and what type of photographer they are. This might seem like a lot of work for just getting engagement photos, but if you're spending the money and taking the time to get them, then you should do it right the first time.

For Better...
For Better...
or For Worse
or For Worse
Getting Creative

After you have found the right photographer to take your engagement photos, you can then move on to the part that stumps most couples -- how to make the photos really fun, creative and memorable. This can be done several ways, but before making any decisions you should decide, as a couple, how you want the final overall look and feel of the photos to end up after everything is said and done. This is going to be different for every couple, but it's definitely a decision that you need to make before you can begin to think about anything else. Also, you don't need to have one set theme for all of the photos, but you need to have a plan for what each of the themes are going to be.

For example, before our engagement photo-shoot my fiancee and I decided that we wanted a 'For Better or For Worse' theme to string through all of our sets of pictures that has taken. So, no matter what location we were at, what we were wearing or how we were posing we always knew that we had to get two specific photos -- one that ha d a 'For Better' theme (us getting along as a couple) and one that had a 'For Worse' theme (us not getting along as a couple). We're a pretty crazy and fun couple, so this was easy to weave into our photo shoot and it really kept us thinking during our day-long shoot. This was our way to have some fun and add in a little of our own personality along the way. We also ended up using the For Better or For Worse theme and engagagement photo poses for our save the date invites, which really worked out great.

This yellow field was an unplanned stop and turned out to be one of our favorite locations.

Choosing The Right Locations

The next thing you need to decide are the locations where you would like to have your engagement photos taken. These locations are places that would either look really cool i your pictures or places that are special to you as a couple for one reason or another. By choosing different locations that have some type of connection to your relationship you'll be able to be much more genuine during your shoot and you're almost guaranteed to appreciate them more in the long run.

Some great places that could potentially make your list of locations are:

* Where you first met
* Where you had your first date
* A restaurant, coffee shop or any other location that you frequent as a couple
* A really cool looking landscape or skyline that's near by
* A location with lots or bright and vibrant colors (see my graffiti wall pic below)
* A location that would be the last place that you would think of getting your engagement photos taken, like an abandoned warehouse or old junkyard

Once you select your locations, don't be scared to get outside of your comfort zone a little bit when you're getting your photos taken. Have fun and explore the spaces -- you're only going to have one chance, so don't leave anything out that you'll regret not getting once you're finished. As a side note me and my fiancee actually took our beach engagement photos (see below) in freezing cold water, although you can't really tell. It was ridiculously cold when we did it, but now that we have the shots we're so glad that we sucked it up!

Also, while you're traveling to your different locations, don't be afraid to make an impromptu stop if you feel the need to take advantage of a new place or background. Some of the best shots that we we took were at locations that we didn't plan on stopping at (like the yellow field above).

This pose wasn't planned, but it still turned out really well. She really loves Pugs!

Eleanor and Erik's Wedding

Sunday, May 2, 2010 was surely a great day for Eleanor and Erik.

They had a small backyard wedding, and were blessed with not only beautiful weather
but wonderful family and friends in attendance. After the wedding the reception was held at the "City Bar" where everyone seemed to have a great time! Even though I was
requested to be their photographer last minute, I would not have had it any other way!

Thanks Eleanor for the wonderful compliments!!! I hope you enjoy the photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!!!

Thanks,
August

New!
Wedding Photography: 9 Hot Wedding Photo Trends (the link to this article on the Knot.com is at the end...)

Here's the latest in wedding photography and how to make it work for you.

A wedding photo is meant to preserve your fabulous day for the rest of your life -- it's not just your new profile pic on Facebook after all! But nuptial shots can look stiff and boring if you're not careful -- or worse, just like everyone else's. How can you make them unique? Here are new wedding photography ideas that'll take you from pre- to post- "I do."
Before the Reception...

1. Become the Center of Attention
Instead of flowers, fill photo cubes with different shots from your dating history or world travels and then use them as table centerpieces. It's a great conversation-starter and a nice way for guests to learn more about the early stages of your relationship. And unlike fresh blooms, you can decorate your home with these afterward.

2. Be the Favors
Have your photo imprinted on cookies and leave one at each place setting. Opt for a black-and-white, vintage-looking image so it doesn't come out cheesy. Wrap the cookie in wax paper and tie with a ribbon. Then let wedding guests eat their hearts out -- and your faces off!

3. Head to the City
Engagement cityscape shoots are popular because of the iconic quality of posing by recognizable landmarks. No skyline? Shooting against an urban brick wall can convey the same message. Use your favorite image in your save-the-dates or, for instant reception decor, blow up one of the pictures, mat it, and set it on an easel near the escort cards. Display other shots in your table cards.
