In closing, I have to say that I am not a photographer because it was some career path I stumbled into as a youngster. Its not as if life developed and somehow I am stuck doing something...

I am a photographer because I have an artistic background, was HUGELY fortunate enough to be exposed to a photography program while I was in high school. Over the last 20 years I have had a pretty nice camera and I took photos here and there for friends and family, weddings and senior portraits. Its now, over 20 years later that I have taken an honest evaluation of my life and decided to do something I REALLY LOVE doing.

When I spend 3-4-5 sometimes 6 hours out in the HOT, the HUMID, covered in SAND (and sand in places it shouldn't be), getting into the air conditioned car... and just about falling asleep on my way home. I still CAN'T wait to dig into the photos from that day. I know I have captured some really cool and sometimes even GREAT moments in these peoples lives. I not only want to see them but share them with these families and the world.

Thank you when you call and book me as your photographer. It humbles me ever single time. I never take it for granted!!!

Sex and the "City Bar"

So, this wonderful woman Paige Oakley-Anderson, decided to have a Sex and the "City Bar" party to raise money for a local breast cancer organization. There were 4 limos and about 50 ladies. They all met at the City Bar in Myrtle Beach, had a few Sex and the City cocktails, then headed off the the premier of Sex and the City. As they exited the limo's there was a full band playing. The manager of the movie theater, met them all and escorted the ladies to their own private theater for the movie. After the movie, there are these 4 stretched limos parked out front. As the ladies are coming out and mingling before getting back into the limos, there was a real buzz in the air. As the photographer I was asked, "Are they famous?" "Are they actresses?" "Are they from New York?" It was a fun time I am sure!

One of the limo drivers even mentioned that an evening like this, is what everyone thinks a limo ride should be like. So, hats off to Paige for organizing this event. Hats off to all of the lovely ladies who came out to support this event.

Back at the City Bar were tickets being bought for all of the wonderful items being raffled off that night. There were Sex and the City posters, gift certificates from my photography business, August T. Michel Photography, as well as Party Maker, Bi-Lo Shopping Center, JPH Retreats, Party Gals by Lisa, Palm Shoe Collections and Carolina Limousine.

Trashing the Wedding Dress

OK, some ladies reading this will at first, "OH MY!! it's your wedding dress!!" I agree! However, some ladies say, "I am honestly never going to wear this dress again. Why NOT.. Trash the Dress?" Again, I agree! ;)

This is where each bride needs to realize that trashing the dress can be from one extreme to the other. A gentle walk through the surf all the way to lighting it on fire.

As your photographer I am going to really leave this 110% up to the bride. How adventurous do you want to be. As your photographer I am not looking to destroy your dress. I am looking to capture some unique images that you will NEVER forget. They will also be some of the more unique photos from anytime in your life.

Brittney and Adam's Wedding

Taste! Food Show

Wow! What an experience! Thursday night I had a chance to meet some of the stars from the Food Network. Guy Fieri ~ Food Networks Host of "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" and also "Guy's Big Bite", Aaron McCargo Jr ~ Season 4 Winner: Food Network's Show "Next Food Network Star" and Host of his own Food Network Show "Big Daddy's House", Rich Hollenberg ~ TV Personality / Cooking Host, Eric Masson ~ Executive Chef and proprietor of The Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro, Eric's wife, Kimberlee Mason, Andreann Geise ~ September 2009 Ultimate Recipe Showdown winner!, Becky Billingsly of the Myrtle Beach Restaurant News, Kara-Anne Serradimigni and Liz Mitchell of Taste!.




Friday was a long day of photographing everything from the breakfast with Guy Fieri all the way to the fine wine reception at the end of the night with Fabio Viviani ~ Bravo TV's Show Top Chef 5 "Fan Favorite" and Jacopo Falleni ~ Mixologist & Restaurant Owner, Firenze Osteria.




I had the chance to photograph the first cooking demo by Andreann Geise ~ September 2009 Ultimate Recipe Showdown winner! Then the room was busting at the seams for Guy Fieri ~ Food Networks Host of "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" and also "Guy's Big Bite". I have to say I have met some personalities over the years and Guy really has a flamboyance about him. At the dinner Thursday night he asked how many of us have ever seen a champagne bottle "sabred"? Some of us have heard of it... Next thing you know we are all outside, Guy has a huge knife and with one felt swoop, the cork and the top of the champagne bottle are now off in the grass somewhere.




I had a chance to then go booth to booth taking some candid shots of the vendors and guests enjoying some of the greatest tasting foods, sauces, cakes, coffee's and the list goes on.



Unfortunately I did have a wedding to photograph on Saturday so I did not have a chance to capture the events. However I did get back for the Awards on Sunday. Please stay tuned for the other blogs I will post about this event.

Eleanor and Erik's Wedding

Sunday, May 2, 2010 was surely a great day for Eleanor and Erik.


They had a small backyard wedding, and were blessed with not only beautiful weather
but wonderful family and friends in attendance. After the wedding the reception was held at the "City Bar" where everyone seemed to have a great time! Even though I was
requested to be their photographer last minute, I would not have had it any other way!

Here's the latest in wedding photography and how to make it work for you.

A wedding photo is meant to preserve your fabulous day for the rest of your life -- it's not just your new profile pic on Facebook after all! But nuptial shots can look stiff and boring if you're not careful -- or worse, just like everyone else's. How can you make them unique? Here are new wedding photography ideas that'll take you from pre- to post- "I do."
Before the Reception...

1. Become the Center of Attention
Instead of flowers, fill photo cubes with different shots from your dating history or world travels and then use them as table centerpieces. It's a great conversation-starter and a nice way for guests to learn more about the early stages of your relationship. And unlike fresh blooms, you can decorate your home with these afterward.

2. Be the Favors
Have your photo imprinted on cookies and leave one at each place setting. Opt for a black-and-white, vintage-looking image so it doesn't come out cheesy. Wrap the cookie in wax paper and tie with a ribbon. Then let wedding guests eat their hearts out -- and your faces off!

3. Head to the City
Engagement cityscape shoots are popular because of the iconic quality of posing by recognizable landmarks. No skyline? Shooting against an urban brick wall can convey the same message. Use your favorite image in your save-the-dates or, for instant reception decor, blow up one of the pictures, mat it, and set it on an easel near the escort cards. Display other shots in your table cards.
